Some procurement veterans still order parts by phone and trust the voice on the other end. I get it. That worked in 2015. But the industry has evolved. What was best practice in 2020—pick a supplier, compare two quick quotes, push a PO—doesn't apply in 2025. The fundamentals haven't changed: you still need the right part, at the right price, before the crew runs out of patience. But the execution has changed. OEM diagrams are online. Part numbers are searchable. The information you need to avoid a $9,500 mistake is usually nine minutes away.
So, if you're buying LeeBoy construction equipment parts, use the diagram. Count the bolt hole distances, check the casting number, and don't let a next-day cutoff override your process. And when a supplier quotes you a 'quality aftermarket product,' ask for the OEM equivalent part number. If they can't give it to you, that's your answer.
The gantry crane and the can crusher are also good reminders to look outside the parts catalog. Sometimes the biggest savings come from the equipment you buy to avoid renting, or the waste you don't pay to haul away. But those are stories for another spreadsheet.
